Dear Maryline, Protective spacers between the bowls keep them securely in the panniers. It seems that by stacking them one inside the other, the friction has caused a small scratch of the color by a grain of "something" inserted. We've never had this happen before. This in no way detracts from the power, beauty and purity of these instruments. Sorry for the temporary inconvenience.
